Welcome to TIPA

Aisa Ijiri founded the Tokyo International Piano Association (TIPA) with the dream of creating a Festival Academy where children, students and artists would be able to come together to study, perform, but above all, enjoy a shared environment which embraces the joy of music-making, and exploration of cultures, arts and scenery.

The journey of TIPA commenced with the inaugural ‘Tokyo International Piano Festival’ in 2016, offering an inspiring five-day piano festival in Kyoto, Osaka, Shiga, Yokohama and Tokyo with the highlight of a grand gala recital at Kioi Hall with world-class concert pianist, Peter Jablonski. As a result, this success propelled TIPA’s endeavours to the grand stages of Europe and beyond.

In 2019, the launch of the Montecatini International Piano Festival & Competition took place in the historical opera town of Montecatini Terme, Italy. Celebrity artists offered an attractive series of masterclasses, workshops and evening concerts at the stunning open-air theatre surrounded by the picturesque landscape of Tuscany.

In 2022, Serbia became the home of ‘Aisa & Friends’ Festival, welcoming young pianists from over 50 countries. TIPA held the Steinway Spirio Launch Concert at the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall and the Prize Winners Recitals at the prestigious Kolarac in Belgrade and Millennium Centre in Vršac. The following year, the Montecatini International Piano Competition embodied the essence of musical mastery and held the Grand Final at the Teatro Niccolini in the heart of Renaissance Florence.

Each of TIPA’s festivals have proudly welcomed a line-up of renowned concert artists, which include Vanessa Latarche (Head of Keyboard at Royal College of Music, London), Sofya Gulyak (Professor of Piano, Royal College of Music, London), Chris Craker (CEO of Karma Sound Studios), Carles Lama (Director of KNS Classical), Nicolas Bringuier (Director of Samson François International Piano Competition), Emanuel Salvador (Concertmaster of the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra), Martin Tillman (EMMY nominated Hollywood film composer), LP DUO (Universal Artist, Neo-Classical Piano Duo), Melanie Spanswick (Composer & Author at Schott Music).

Today, TIPA stands as a beacon of musical excellence, with the festival & concert series in the U.K, Japan, Italy, and Serbia. Moreover, TIPA’s Japan Piano Camp, in association with the Sakura Festival in Kyoto and Steinway & Sons, Tokyo, will launch in 2024.

It is our deep aspirations that both participating artists and musicians will view the festival academy as a home where they can feel connected through a common path of exploration. We look forward to welcoming many of you to our worldwide musical odyssey!
