The Tokyo International Piano Association (TIPA) was founded by concert pianist and Steinway Artist Aisa Ijiri, inspired by her vision of creating a Festival Academy where young musicians and artists from around the world can come together to learn, perform, and share the joy of music-making within a rich cultural environment.

TIPA’s journey began in 2016 with the Tokyo International Piano Festival, a multi-city celebration across Japan culminating in a gala recital at Kioi Hall featuring renowned concert pianist Peter Jablonski. This success led to TIPA’s international expansion and the launch of the Montecatini International Piano Festival & Competition in Italy in 2019. Set in the heart of Tuscany, the festival has welcomed distinguished resident artists including Chris Craker, Martin Tillman, Sofya Gulyak, Melanie Spanswick, LP Duo, Carles Lama, Nicolas Bringuier, Congyu Wang and others, who generously share their artistry and expertise with the next generation.

Through close collaboration with Steinway & Sons, Royal College of Music, La Filharmonie, and Karma Sound Studios, TIPA has built a strong global platform. Prize winners perform at prestigious venues such as Teatro Niccolini in Florence, the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, Kolarac Concert Hall, and Steinway Halls in London, Milan, Tokyo, and Osaka. Notably, Ryan Wang (also the 2024 BBC Young Musician of the Year) made his Italy debut as part of the festival.

TIPA’s educational mission continues to expand with the 3rd Edition of Piano Camp Japan – an immersive international music boot camp in Tokyo and Kyoto in April 2026. Today TIPA presents festivals, concerts, and educational projects across Japan, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
